DOWNTOWN SUCCESS STORIES

Holly’s Sweet Treats

Hollys Sweet Treats

Opening Holly’s Sweet Treats in downtown Hutchinson has been one of the best decisions I’ve made—both for my business and for our family. With support from an IWW loan through the City of Hutchinson, along with funding from Startup Hutch and Network Kansas, I was able to bring my vision to life in a space full of opportunity.

Holly’s Sweet Treats is a from-scratch bakery and deli offering fresh breads, custom cakes, desserts, and delicious lunch options all in one welcoming space.

Downtown is truly the heartbeat of our community. The energy here is unmatched—there’s a constant flow of people, strong support from neighboring businesses, and a sense that everyone is rooting for each other to succeed. Being surrounded by other passionate entrepreneurs and engaged residents has helped our business not just survive, but thrive.

Downtown Wins

Meyer Landmark

The Meyer Landmark

The historic Landmark Hotel in downtown Hutchinson is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation, breathing new life into one of the community’s most iconic buildings. This large-scale renovation is carefully preserving the building’s early 1900s character while modernizing it for today’s needs, including the creation of thoughtfully designed apartment spaces and future retail and dining opportunities. As one of the largest historic redevelopment projects in Kansas, the Landmark’s revival is expected to play a key role in energizing downtown—blending history, housing, and community in a way that honors the past while shaping Hutchinson’s future.

The Stevens Building

The Stevens Building

The historic Stevens Building on Main Street—recognized as one of the oldest surviving structures in Hutchinson—has seen a thoughtful and ongoing revival that blends preservation with modern use. Recent renovations have focused on reactivating underutilized interior spaces while maintaining the building’s historic character, including careful remodeling that avoids altering original architectural features. Efforts have included converting portions of the building into residential living space and updating commercial areas, ensuring the structure remains both functional and relevant. Today, the Stevens Building stands as a strong example of downtown Hutchinson’s commitment to historic preservation and adaptive reuse, helping bring renewed energy and purpose to Main Street.

Fox Theatre

Hutchinson's Fox Theatre

The Historic Fox Theatre in downtown Hutchinson stands as one of the community’s most treasured examples of preservation and revitalization. Originally opened in 1931 as a grand Art Deco “movie palace,” the theatre served as a cultural centerpiece for decades before closing in 1985. After sitting vacant, a dedicated local nonprofit purchased the building in 1990 and led a major $4.5 million restoration, carefully preserving its ornate architectural details while adapting it for modern performances. The Fox triumphantly reopened in 1999, marking a new era as a regional performing arts center. Continued improvements over the years—including restoration of its iconic neon marquee and ongoing upgrades to acoustics and amenities—have ensured the theatre remains both historically authentic and fully functional. Today, the Fox Theatre is not only a beautifully restored landmark, but a vibrant hub for arts, entertainment, and community life in Hutchinson.
